Ngā Pīwakawaka

6 months to 2 years

Welcome to rūma pīwakawaka, we look forward to having your child and whānau starting at Gracefield Early Childhood Centre.

To allow us to get to know your child and your whānau we encourage several settling-in visits. These visits will allow you and your child to develop a sense of familiarity and belonging, (mana whenua), within the centre environment.

We do like to incorporate your child's routine into the centre to ensure routines are consistent with home, feel free to provide us a copy of sleep and meal/kai times, interests and likes.

Settling your child into rūma pīwakawaka enables us to develop and establish positive relationships/ngā hononga, with you and your child. We suggest varying the times of day you visit as this enables you to capture the true essence and reflection of the centre's daily routines.

If you feel comfortable after completing a few visits, leave your child for a couple of hours, this allows your child to develop positive and secure relationships/ngā hononga, as they get to know us better.

This fosters a sense of belonging/mana whenua and wellbeing/mana atua, where their emotional well-being/mana atua, is nurtured.

Upon enrolment, i.e. when your child officially starts on their first day, we will contact you to inform you of how they are settling, however, do feel free to contact us at any time.

When your child's first day approaches you will receive a locker, a nappy locker, a parent/whānau pocket, and a profile book. The profile book is a tool we use to identify and capture your child's interests and development. These observations are documented, identifying the positive learning outcomes for your child while they attend Gracefield Early Childhood Centre.

You will be informed of the online programme we use to document learning journeys at the time of your visit.
